PLEAS Basketball Event - Sept 14th, 2026

By Lillianna Lyons

On September 14th, 2026, PLEAS, a nonprofit organization, hosted a free basketball coaching
session at Round Lake Park, Eden Prairie. The event was led by Wei Wei Ma, the lead
organizer for the event, former professional basketball player, and current basketball coach.
Alongside her were her son and daughter, Edward and Lillianna, as well as Olivia. Olivia and
Lillianna are both members of the Minnetonka girls travel basketball team.

Edward taught the kids passing drills. The kids practiced bounce passes and chest passes with

each other. Edward also demonstrated the correct passing form.

Lillianna led the shooting station. At first, participants learned proper shooting form and the right

foot positions, arm movements, and hand placements on the ball. Then, they played shooting

games such as Around the World.

Olivia taught the dribbling station. Starting at the basics, participants exercised dribbling with
one hand. Olivia taught them proper form, such as knees being bent and eyes facing forward.
The kids also participated in dribbling games like King of the Court.

In conclusion, the basketball coaching session was a resounding success, with every participant
leaving satisfied and wanting to learn more the next time!
